The Sippys love science, and just about everything about the natural world! Here are some fun facts about some of the things we sing about in our songs: A jellyfish is an invertebrate made up mostly of water, it has no heart, brain or bones. It is made up of 96% water, 3% protein and 1% minerals. A ladybug beats its wings 85 times a second when it flies. Hail forms in storm clouds when supercooled water droplets freeze on contact with dust or dirt. The storm's updraft blows the hailstones to the upper part of the cloud. The updraft dissipates and the hailstones fall down, back into the updraft, and are lifted up again. The hailstone gains an ice layer and grows increasingly larger with each ascent. Once a hailstone becomes too heavy to be supported by the storm's updraft, it falls from the cloud. |
The first full scale working railway steam locomotive was built by British inventor Richard Trevithick, on 21 February 1804. Most children begin to lose their baby teeth by age 6 or 7, although sometimes baby teeth fall out up to a year or two earlier or later. Girls generally lose baby teeth earlier than do boys. The last baby teeth typically fall out by age 12 or 13. When it rains, the air is filled with raindrops. These raindrops act like a prism. If sunlight passes through the raindrops at the proper angle it is split into its spectrum, which is made up of the colors of the rainbow. |
